Rajan holds both a Master of Engineering (M.Eng) and Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Structural Engineering from Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany. He completed his studies from 1986 to 1994. These degrees are recognized as equivalent to Canadian Masters and Bachelors degrees in Engineering, as assessed by the University of Toronto in 1996.
During his academic tenure at Technische Universität Darmstadt, Rajan focused on innovative approaches to structural engineering design. He utilized Genetic Programming (GP) methodology, where computer programs evolve to find solutions to engineering problems. Additionally, Rajan developed graphical computer software using FORTRAN 77, which enabled the comparison of results between Genetic Programming (GP) and Genetic Algorithm (AP) methods.
Prior to his education in Germany, Rajan pursued studies in Physical Science at the University of Jaffna. This foundational education provided him with a strong understanding of scientific principles, which he later applied and expanded upon during his engineering studies.
