Math 11 Unit 5- 8

Unit 5 – Trigonometric Ratios

Trigonometric ratios, also known as trigonometric functions, are mathematical functions that relate the angles of a right triangle to the ratios of its sides. There are six primary trigonometric ratios: sine , cosine , tangent , cosecant , secant, and cotangent.

These trigonometric ratios can be used to calculate unknown angles or side lengths in right triangles, given the values of other known angles or side lengths. They are also widely used in various fields such as geometry, physics, engineering, and navigation to solve problems involving angles and distances.

Unit 6 – Sinusoidal Functions

Sinusoidal functions, also known as sine and cosine functions, are mathematical functions that exhibit a repeating pattern called a sinusoid. They are used to model periodic phenomena that occur in a cyclical manner, such as the motion of a pendulum, the tides, or the oscillation of a spring.

Sinusoidal functions are widely used in various fields, including physics, engineering, sound and music, electrical engineering, and signal processing. They provide a mathematical framework to model and analyze periodic phenomena, predict behavior, and solve problems related to oscillatory systems.

Unit 7 – Sequences and Series

The Sequences and Series course for Grade 11 provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts and properties of sequences and series in mathematics. Students will explore patterns, relationships, and formulas within arithmetic and geometric sequences, as well as the behavior of series. Through a combination of theory and problem-solving exercises, students will develop their analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as their ability to recognize and work with various types of sequences and series.

Unit 8 – Financial Applications

Sequences and series have various financial applications, particularly in the areas of compound interest, annuities, and amortization. These concepts are used to analyze and calculate the growth or accumulation of funds over time and to determine the payments required for loans or investments. They provide mathematical tools to evaluate investments, calculate loan payments, determine future values, and assess the financial implications of various transactions. Understanding these concepts helps individuals and businesses make informed financial decisions and manage their resources effectively.
